Survival groups – Leadership and your role

Survival groupsIn the first two parts, I spoke of survival groups and why part of one, the ABC’s of survival group and deciding to join or build one.  This week join me in talking about things to consider in leadership and what your roles and the roles of others may be.

6-1-16 CSAIn any group, there are going to be those who set the expectations and those who follow them.  Other things will arise and knowing the means by which any group determines the way the group runs and how decisions are made will be an important part of your decision to build or join one.  Also having a clearly defined expectation for the roles of those in the group will alleviate confusion.

6-1-16 30518-head-with-members-hierarchyThis week in defining these roles we will address some of the many skills a group might need their members to have or learn.  Through training, meetings, and planning to get the group in a position to maintain itself.  Addressing these things early on or knowing the expects is integral to choosing or building the best group.

Knowing the needs of the group and listing some of the needed skills, addressing;

  • Security, OPSEC, Communications and the vetting process.
  • Food production, gathering, and preservation
  • Medical needs
  • Energies and water
  • And group accounting and accountability

Welcome to The House of “B”

You might be sitting there, wondering what the hell you’re listening to here.     Well, let me tell you a bit about that.

The House of B is a place where you can come to get a different flavor on the world of prepping. The Liberty Chronicles is a three book series that begins more of a political fiction with I Overthrew The Government and This Is How I Did It continuing with The Freedom Fighters that slowly transitions to more of a post-apocalyptic by the end of the third book. I try to incorporate prepping ideas and concepts into the story because I happen to believe that one can use works of fiction to better educate people about the reality of the world we live in… and how easily it can come crumbling down. Bugging out -vs- Bugging in, SHTF waits for no one!

Both of these terms are decidedly “Prepper” terms, but have we ever really considered the true meanings of these? The differences and implications of each, and should we be equally concerned about both of them?  First thing is first, let’s talk a little bit about what each of these terms means to you.  Continue reading Bugging out -vs- Bugging in, SHTF waits for no one!

Addiction Post SHTF

It’s interesting to note that addictions come in many forms it is not only drugs or alcohol the people are addicted to.  I am not wanting to climb up on a soapbox but sometimes we look at things and we don’t realize that they consume far too much of our time.  I could give you a giant list of these… Facebook, food, cigarettes, porn and even coffee. I’d like to examine a few of these and offer not only insight into them but also links to assist my fellow preppers. Continue reading Addiction Post SHTF

8 Things That Are Worth More than Anything in a Disaster

If you’re looking to stockpile, you’ve probably taken into account several factors in order to decide what should be on your survival shopping list. By looking at recent events across the globe or even the ones in the US (remember Katrina), it’s easy to notice which items people would have given all their money and possessions for in exchange for hydrating themselves, feeding their children or… Continue reading 8 Things That Are Worth More than Anything in a Disaster

Saving with Co-ops and buying clubs

Saving with Co-ops and buying clubs

11-3-15 buy-in-bulkLast week on Surviving Dystopia we talked about pinching pennies and ways to save with projects aimed at reducing the costs of some of the things we need.  Another way to save money and make those pennies last is to buy in bulk.  If in the long run you can reduce the expenses of your household wouldn’t this be something you would choose to do?

11-3-15 foosdBuying items in bulk can be a fantastic way to save a few pennies but we also need to remember these things must be stored.  When buying in bulk a few things need some special care, for example; Perishible items.  Taking care to establish safe methods of storage for such items is critical, so you can be sure you are saving those extra pennies. Surviving Dystopia, What the heck does that mean?

 About: Surviving Dystopia

Surviving Dystopia, What the heck does that mean?

In it’s most basic sense? “The art of Getting By”

In 1516 Sir Thomas Moore coined the word Utopia… In his book of the same name, he is describing a society possessing near perfect qualities…. Dystopia is described as the opposite of that, often characterized by dehumanization, totalitarian governments, disasters or some other cataclysmic decline in society.
