Survival groups – Leadership and your role

Survival groupsIn the first two parts, I spoke of survival groups and why part of one, the ABC’s of survival group and deciding to join or build one.  This week join me in talking about things to consider in leadership and what your roles and the roles of others may be.

6-1-16 CSAIn any group, there are going to be those who set the expectations and those who follow them.  Other things will arise and knowing the means by which any group determines the way the group runs and how decisions are made will be an important part of your decision to build or join one.  Also having a clearly defined expectation for the roles of those in the group will alleviate confusion.

6-1-16 30518-head-with-members-hierarchyThis week in defining these roles we will address some of the many skills a group might need their members to have or learn.  Through training, meetings, and planning to get the group in a position to maintain itself.  Addressing these things early on or knowing the expects is integral to choosing or building the best group.

Knowing the needs of the group and listing some of the needed skills, addressing;

  • Security, OPSEC, Communications and the vetting process.
  • Food production, gathering, and preservation
  • Medical needs
  • Energies and water
  • And group accounting and accountability

ABC’s of the Survival Group!

DJ Cooper “Surviving Dystopia

ABC’s of the Survival GroupThe second part in a series of shows highlighting the survival group.  With this, we include many different kinds of groups.  Last week we talked about the need for a group, the kinds of groups and whether or not to build or join one.  Moving forward with our discussion on groups let’s talk about the most basic things to either look for or set up in our groups.

5-25-16 who whatBriefly touching last week on something called a mission statement or set of goals that the group will have in place or will establish.  This is crucial to the setup and operation of the group.  This week we look into the questions surrounding this crucial first step in either establishment or finding an established group.

The ABC’s is the most basic elements of the group;

  • Who are the members of the group
  • What is the goal of the group
  • When do they meet or when a call to action would be appropriate
  • Where is the location or is there a location
  • Why do you want to either build or join these groups
  • How do you go about either joining or establishing the group

These questions are the beginnings of either finding or building your group

Quoting Alfred Henry Lewis, “There are only nine meals between mankind and anarchy.”  It is important to note that this represents three days.  Knowing this should help you to determine the type of survival group, the rules, ideals, and requirements of the group; and ways you can make yourself a valued member of the group.

Survival groups

Survival groups… why do you need one?

Survival groups why do you need one?
DJ Cooper “Surviving Dystopia

Survival groups why do you need oneYou’ve considered all the scenarios and you feel prepared.  One thing troubles you, others…  There must be others out there that think like you do.  Others that think like you that can offer assistance, others to barter with.  You know that it is not practical to try the lone wolf school of thought and you don’t know where to begin.

Moving forward over the next few weeks we will talk about groups and alliances.  This week join us in discussing the important things to consider when either choosing a group to work with or if creating your own is the way to go.

Moving forward, weekly a post will apply to this topic and a show will also air Tuesdays @8:00pm EST, on Prepper Podcast Radio Network

This week let’s touch on just figuring out what your needs are and where you may find yourself fitting into the grand scheme of things.  At this point, the premise is that you have pretty much decided to go with the group.  So now how do you determine what is the right fit for you?

Some points to consider:

  • Can you offer assistance and participate in the group activities and or build the group?
  • How do you feel about participating in a hierarchy where the questions of the group are concerned?
  • Is it just you or do you need to convince family members that this is a good move

Let’s explore the options of both, building a group and finding an established group.  Also finding candidates and being a good choice for an established group. Different ways to find like-minded people and create those connections.

In preparing we often forget the need for help to do things, companionship, and security.  Creating a network of others could save your life.

Prepper Shows/Expos

by Pappy Canoli

Pappy’s Ramblings

Hello, and welcome to another  of my ramble’s

Recently, I was able to attend with my wife, our first Prepper Expo by NPS EXPO and sponsor Mountain House.  I have read articles and listened to podcasts about Prepper Shows/Expos and the people, exhibitors you meet there.

I was not disappointed.

As soon as I walked in, I immediately felt at ease.  I no longer felt like the proverbial fish out of water.  It seemed everyone was feeling a sense of ease as we mingled with like-minded people.  So many exhibitors, speakers, and demonstrations to participate in.

A great source to find a show near you is Prepper Shows USA

So, Let’s talk about the show….shall we?

Cooking Fish Off the Grid

A post by: John Schips, Primary Contributor for www.flannelfishermen.com

One of the best things about catching fish is enjoying top quality, fresh meat!  Few meals are more appreciated than a fish plucked straight from the water; and when it comes to preparing the catch, one rule stands the test of time – the simpler the better. Bugging out -vs- Bugging in, SHTF waits for no one!

Both of these terms are decidedly “Prepper” terms, but have we ever really considered the true meanings of these? The differences and implications of each, and should we be equally concerned about both of them?  First thing is first, let’s talk a little bit about what each of these terms means to you.  Continue reading Bugging out -vs- Bugging in, SHTF waits for no one!

Addiction Post SHTF

It’s interesting to note that addictions come in many forms it is not only drugs or alcohol the people are addicted to.  I am not wanting to climb up on a soapbox but sometimes we look at things and we don’t realize that they consume far too much of our time.  I could give you a giant list of these… Facebook, food, cigarettes, porn and even coffee. I’d like to examine a few of these and offer not only insight into them but also links to assist my fellow preppers. Continue reading Addiction Post SHTF

6 Survival Skills for Bugging In and Out

A post by Dan Sullivan:

The topic of survival skills is a big one. There’re literally hundreds you can learn and become good at that will help you survive. From filtering water to homesteading to raising animals to making primitive tools and weapons, their number and complexity may seem intimidating. Ideally, you should get each family member to specialize in a few of them so you’re always covered no matter what happens… but some of them are too important not to have everybody learn them. Ways to decide… Friend or Foe?

I posed a question on my Facebook asking…”What should I talk on?”  There were a few responses but the thing that got some great conversation going was a reply…”How to form friendships or greet people after the collapse.”  Funny thing was this morphed into a conversation about defenses.
